On the NCAA website, Rhodes student-athlete Claire Cordua ’13 shares her story of surviving a stroke and having plans to play on the Rhodes volleyball team this fall.

The story begins, “It was a carefree summer day last July as Claire Cordua headed to the beach with her boyfriend near her hometown of San Diego, Calif. But, as she drove down the road, that all quickly changed for the rising freshman women′s volleyball player that would soon be attending Rhodes College.”

During the annual Rhodes College Athletic Banquet, Senior Outside Hitter Kelsea Everett was named the team's MVP for the 2009 season as voted on by her teammates and coaches.

This Saturday the Rhodes Volleyball team will host their annual Spring Volleyball Play Date.  Action will begin at 10am with play concluding around 2pm.  This year Hendrix College, an alumni team comprised of college players from Rhodes, CBU and the University of Memphis will join the Lynx squad in action.

The SCAC named a record 780 student-athletes to the 2009 SCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll this past weekend.  Rhodes placed the most athletes (101) onto the Honor Roll out of the 12 schools in the conference.  To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a conference sponsored sport.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its second annual Volleyball All-Sportsmanship teams. Twelve women's volleyball players were selected to the 2009 squad.  Alex Nobel was chosen as the reprsentative from the Rhodes Volleyball team.  Nobel was the perfect fit for this honor as she demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship all season while leading her team both on and off the court this season.

The Rhodes Volleyball team went 1-1 on Day 1 of the final SCAC East-Central Divisional hosted by Centre College.  The Lynx defeated Sewanee in three straight sets by the scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-15.  In the teams final match of the day, the Lynx lost to DePauw in three straight sets by the scores of 15-25, 18-25, 12-25.

The Rhodes Volleyball team finished 2-1 on Day 2 of their Fall Break Classic.  The team defeated Trasylvania University and Rust College while dropping a tough five set battle to Averett University.  The Lynx finish with an overall 3-2 record on the weekend.

The Rhodes Volleyball Team opened their Fall Break Classic Tournament on Saturday by defeating Monmouth College in 3 sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-15).  The team then dropped their second match to Adrian College in three sets by the scores of 17-25, 18-25, 16-25.

Athletes of the Week
Stephanie Mingos
Women's Golf
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Stephanie Mingos as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.
 
In the last month, Mingos put together an impressive campaign, winning three of her last four tournaments.  Her most recent victory came at the SCAC Championships, where Mingos captured Rhodes' first SCAC individual title since 2002, winning by a 6 stroke deficit over several of the nation's top players.
 
Her three day total of 14 over par is a new SCAC record, topping the previous mark of 17 over par by three-time SCAC champion Marisa Mauldin of Southwestern. Mingos' performance earned her first team All-SCAC and SCAC Player of the Year honors.
Chris Conkell
Baseball
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Chris Conkell as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.
 
The Lynx starting catcher managed a .458 batting average (22/48), 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored during the month of April. Durning this time, Conkell harnessed a 13 game hitting streak, hitting safely in every game for the month.
 
He was also named to the SCAC All-Tournament team after his performance in the conference tournament. His batting average of .412, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored in the tournament led him to be one of three players who were unanimous selections to the team.

Rhodes College
