The Rhodes baseball 2010 senior class collected their 100th career win on Tuesday with a 7-1 victory over Millsaps College.  They won 36 games in 2007, 28 in 2008, 25 in 2009, and currently have 11 wins this season.  They have a career record of 100-44, winning 69.4% of their games.

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Millsaps College 7-1 this afternoon at Stauffer Field.  The Lynx jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning behind homeruns by juniors Chris Conkell and Matt Gilbert.  Rhodes would extend their lead to 6-1 after the third and put up another run in the bottom of the sixth.  Freshman Jackson Baker collected his 2nd victory of the season and junior Hunter Chandler picked up his 3rd save.  Rhodes is now 11-3 on the year.

Rhodes used solo home runs from Elise Suna, Olivia Ryan and Kelli Zomer on their way to a 5-2 win over MacMurray in game 1, as Cindy Bitters earned her first win of the season in the circle.  In game 2, Chelsea Peters tossed her 3rd shutout of the season and improved to 6-2, as the  Lynx jumped out to an 8-0 lead after 1 inning and cruised to a 15-0 win.  Rhodes improves to 10-4 and returns to action Thursday against Blackburn.

3.07.2010 | Baseball
The Rhodes baseball team defeated Blackburn College 18-6 at Stauffer field this afternoon.  Rhodes spotted the Beavers 2 runs in the top of the first but were able to answer back with 4 in the bottom of the inning and put the game away with a 6 run second and 4 run third.  Sophomore Brian Lainoff picked up his second victory of the season, as the Lynx improve to 10-3 on the year.

The NCAA recently announced the fall recipients of the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and Rhodes Andy Boucher was one of thirty-seven honorees.  Andy has a 3.93 cumulative grade point average in Neuroscience and plans to attend medical school.   In football he started at free safety and he's also the starting 2nd baseman on the Lynx baseball team.  Andy has volunteered at the Presley Trauma Center and he's performed internships at Campbell's Clinic and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated NAIA opponent Union University this afternoon at Stauffer Field.  Rhodes took an early 1-0 through after three and stretched it to 4-1 after five and put the game away with a five run bottom of the seventh.  Junior Hunter Chandler collected his first victory for the Lynx, as Rhodes improved to 8-2 on the year.

3.1.10 | Men's Golf
The Rhodes Men's Golf Team captured 2nd place at the Calloway Collegiate Classic golf tournament being held at Calloway Gardens, GA.  In a driving, freezing rain the Lynx shot  313 for the 2nd 18 to go with their first round score of 300 to post a 613 total.  Methodist, the #1 ranked team in Division III, shot 297-302=599 to win the championship.  Rhodes defeated #5 Oglethorpe, the defending D3 national champion, as well as Huntingdon (#3) and Emory (#7).

Kelli Zomer, a sophomore outfielder from Grand Rapids, MI, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 22 through Sunday, February 28.

Herb Hilgeman, who just completed his 34th year as the Rhodes head basketball coach, announced today will retire from his position at Rhodes effective May 15.  Herb is the dean of college coaches in the Memphis area having served as the Lynx head basketball coach since 1976.

     Rhodes sophomore forward Sharwil Bell was named the 2009-10 SCAC Women's Basketball Newcomer-of-the-Year this past weekend, in exclusive voting by all SCAC coaches. Bell ranked in the top 10 in six SCAC categories during the regular season to earn the award.

The Rhodes Women's Golf Team defeated Millsaps 348-397 this afternoon at Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison, MS.  Stephanie Mingos carded a 78 to earn medalist honors in the match.  Mirel Brackin of Millsaps shot an 83 to place 2nd.  "It was great to see Stephanie have a solid round today.  Shooting 78 on a course she'd never seen before was really good," said Lynx head coach Mike Clary.

Erik Campbell
Men's Swimming
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named sophomore Erik Campbell as the Student Athlete of the Month for February.
 
Campbell set 7 School records at the SCAC Championships, finishing 3rd overall in the 200 Fly, 4th overall in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle, and in the 4x100 relay, he broke the Rhodes 100 Freestyle record. 
 
 
In addition, he swam on 3 different relay teams that set the school record.
Susanna  Kirby
Women's Swimming
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named freshman Susanna Kirby as the Student Athlete of the Month for February.
 
On the second day of SCAC Championships, Susanna had an amazing day, breaking the Rhodes 400 IM record with a 4:37.77, earning her 2nd place in the race and a “B” Nationals cut.
 
Kirby also finished in 6th place in both the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke and was also a member of 4 relays, leading the Lynx to a 5th place overall finish in the SCAC.
