On Thursday, March 25th, under the lights at the Mike Rose Soccer Stadium, Rhodes defeated Colaiste Ide from Ireland 2-0. Junior Nick Bailey scored both goals with assists from Freshmen Colby Bowles and Ben Owens. The game was a competitive event, as usual, but it was the Lynx who were able to find the net twice and could have had two more goals if not for excellent Irish goalkeeping. The three Lynx goalkeepers, Junior Justin Stradley and Freshmen Zach Fernberger and Will Lay, combined for the shutout, the first against the Irish since 2003. This year marks the 11th consecutive year that Rhodes has played the Irish College of Further Education.
On Saturday, March 27th, the team took to the field against an alumni lineup that included six graduating seniors and a solid group of former players, including "Player/Coach" Neil Brunetz, who traveled with the team on the Germany/Austria/Slovakia preseason tour last August. The alumni created a few tense moments for the "youngsters," but in the end, the alumni conceded four times as the returning team prevailed with a 4-0 win, the first alumni game shutout in six years. Nick Bailey added his 3rd goal in two days with an assist from Freshman Turner Willis. Sophomore Will Wurster scored twice with Junior Austin Pyhrr assisting the first goal and Bailey assisting the other. Willis added the last goal with an assist from Freshman Will Cooner. Goalkeepers Justin Stradley and Will Lay shared the shutout on the day.
