The Rhodes College Athletics Department held its annual Athletics Banquet Wednesday night, April 28, in which each sport is recognized and awards are given for both athletic and academic achievments. It is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of these student-athletes as they've balanced inter-collegiate competition with a rigorous academia. Each sport announces its MVP, and for Men's Soccer, it was no surprise when Logan Eberly's name was called. Logan has been an integral part of the program for four years, amassing a total of 38 goals (third all-time) as the leading goal scorer in each of his four years. This season, he was named to the All-Conference team for a third time in his career and was the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 26 - November 1. In addition, Logan was named the Rhodes College Student-Athlete of the Month for October of 2009 and was chosen for the SCAC All-Sportsmanship team. Head Coach Andy Marcinko had nothing but praises for Logan: "Logan is one of the most committed and dedicated student-athletes I have ever come across...He finishes his career ranked in the top 10 of nine all-time career statistical categories...[and] Logan is living proof that an ordinary person can achieve extraordinarily."

On Thursday, March 25th, under the lights at the Mike Rose Soccer Stadium, Rhodes defeated Colaiste Ide from Ireland 2-0.  Junior Nick Bailey scored both goals with assists from Freshmen Colby Bowles and Ben Owens.  The game was a competitive event, as usual, but it was the Lynx who were able to find the net twice and could have had two more goals if not for excellent Irish goalkeeping.  The three Lynx goalkeepers, Junior Justin Stradley and Freshmen Zach Fernberger and Will Lay, combined for the shutout, the first against the Irish since 2003.  This year marks the 11th consecutive year that Rhodes has played the Irish College of Further Education.

Sunday, November 1 - The Men's Soccer team honored their seniors today before they faced off against Austin College in a Conference matchup. It was a rough start, and the Lynx gave up an early goal in the 4th minute of the game, but they battled back to even the game in the 13th minute on a goal by Nick Bailey (assisted by Zac Berry). Each team would score again before halftime (Rhodes goal by Petar Radujkovic, unassisted), leaving the halftime score at 2-2. The second half was less eventful goal-wise, and Logan Eberly would score the game-winner in the 68th minute on a Richard Sewell assist. The final score was 3-2 Rhodes, and Zach Fernberger played the full 90 minutes for the Lynx, tallying 4 saves. Athletes of the Week
Chris Conkell
Baseball
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Chris Conkell as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.

The Lynx starting catcher managed a .458 batting average (22/48), 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored during the month of April. Durning this time, Conkell harnessed a 13 game hitting streak, hitting safely in every game for the month.

He was also named to the SCAC All-Tournament team after his performance in the conference tournament. His batting average of .412, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored in the tournament led him to be one of three players who were unanimous selections to the team.
Stephanie Mingos
Women's Golf
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Stephanie Mingos as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.

In the last month, Mingos put together an impressive campaign, winning three of her last four tournaments.  Her most recent victory came at the SCAC Championships, where Mingos captured Rhodes' first SCAC individual title since 2002, winning by a 6 stroke deficit over several of the nation's top players.

Her three day total of 14 over par is a new SCAC record, topping the previous mark of 17 over par by three-time SCAC champion Marisa Mauldin of Southwestern. Mingos' performance earned her first team All-SCAC and SCAC Player of the Year honors.

What place will Rhodes Football finish in the SCAC this fall?
