Sophomore
Shay Womack fired rounds of 72-75 = 147 in very tough windy conditions at Ironwood Country Club in Normal, Illinois to win the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational by 3 shots over Nate Jaegar of Nebraska Wesleyan. Sophomore
Scott Wallace tied for 6th with scores of 77-76 = 153 and was selected to the All Tournament Team.
The Rhodes Team with the help of Shay, Scott, and a final round even par 72 by Sophomore
Farrell Diliberto, finished 2nd to the host team Illinois Wesleyan in the 25 team field.
“With winds at 30 miles per hour, and gusting at 48 miles per hour, that opening day round of 72 by Shay was remarkable”, said Coach Cochran, Head Men's Golf Coach. “The wind really effected putting, as it was hard to stand still over the ball”, said Cochran, “and you were always worried about your ball moving and costing you a penalty shot.”
Shay Womack's win was the first for a Rhodes Men's Golfer since Robert Burrow won the Rhodes Fall Collegiate Classic at Tunic National in September of 2007. “I think this is just the first of several other wins by Shay during his career at Rhodes” said Cochran.
