The Rhodes College baseball team split today's double header with #14 Marietta College.  Rhodes lost the first game 3-0, before defeating the Pioneers 4-3 in 10 innings in the second game.  Junior Chris Conkell drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice fly to right field scoring junior Kyle Peterson.  Sophomore Austin Carden picked up the loss for the Lynx in the first game and freshman John White got his first collegiate victory in the second game.  Rhodes is now 9-3 on the year.

Carden went 6 innings in the first game allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, both of which were earned, walked 1 and struck out 6.  Carden is now 2-2 on the year.  Freshman Jackson Baker worked the seventh inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 unearned run, and struck out 1.  Junior 1B Brogan Jayne was 1-3 and senior 2B Andy Boucher was 1-2.

In the second game of the day, junior Taylor Babich worked the first five innings allowing 9 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 1, and struck out 2.  Junior Hunter Chandler relieved Babich in the sixth and allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 2 over the next 3 innings.  Freshman John White threw the 9th and 10th and did not allow a runner to reach base.  In doing so, White collected his first collegiate victory and is now 1-0 on the year.

The Lynx offense was led by junior 1B Brogan Jayne who was 2-5 on the day.  Junior RF Matt Gilbert was 2-4 with a run scored.  Senior 2B Andy Boucher was 1-1 with a double.  Freshman SS Lynden Pindling was 2-2 on the day.  Junior C Chris Conkell was 0-2, but drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the 10th.

Rhodes will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 against Blackburn College.

Chris Conkell
Baseball
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Chris Conkell as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.
 
The Lynx starting catcher managed a .458 batting average (22/48), 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored during the month of April. Durning this time, Conkell harnessed a 13 game hitting streak, hitting safely in every game for the month.
 
He was also named to the SCAC All-Tournament team after his performance in the conference tournament. His batting average of .412, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored in the tournament led him to be one of three players who were unanimous selections to the team.
Stephanie Mingos
Women's Golf
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Stephanie Mingos as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.
 
In the last month, Mingos put together an impressive campaign, winning three of her last four tournaments.  Her most recent victory came at the SCAC Championships, where Mingos captured Rhodes' first SCAC individual title since 2002, winning by a 6 stroke deficit over several of the nation's top players.
 
Her three day total of 14 over par is a new SCAC record, topping the previous mark of 17 over par by three-time SCAC champion Marisa Mauldin of Southwestern. Mingos' performance earned her first team All-SCAC and SCAC Player of the Year honors.
