TERRE HAUTE, IN - The Rhodes Women's Track & Field team opened the 2012 Indoor Track & Field season Saturday at the Engineer Invitational, hosted by Rose-Hulman. Competing against ten other teams, the Lynx finished 4
th place as team behind Washington University, Monmouth, and Bellarmine.
Leading the way in the team scoring was freshman,
Chelsea Temple with a victory in the 400 meters, with a time of 59.41. Temple also contributed to relay victories in the 4x200 and 4x400. The other three members of the 4x200 relay team were junior,
Lindsay Svehla, sophomore,
Mary Kate Mullen, and freshman
Sadie Yanckello. The 1:45.90 time posted by the 4x200 Relay team was a new meet and facility record. Other members of the 4x400 relay were freshman,
Sadie Yanckello,
Jessica Burnam, and senior,
Megan Lee. The team finished 4:02.49 to also establish a new meet record.
In the sprint events,
Lindsay Svehla and
Mary Kate Mullen both qualified for finals in the 60 meter and finished 3
rd and 6
th, with times of 8.04 and 8.29. Later in the meet Mullen turned in another solid performance finishing 4
th in the 200 meter with a time of 27.36.
Qualifying for the 60 meter hurdle finals was freshman,
Sadie Yanckello who crossed the line in 4
th place with a time of 9.65.
Sophomore,
Rebecca Olivarez and freshman
Claire Coulter led the Lynx in the distance events with 2
nd place finishes in the 3000 and 5000 meter runs. Olivarez turned in a personal best time of 10:47.18 in the 3000, while Coulter finished in 20:08.18.
