Sandy Henin, a recently graduated senior from Cordova, TN,  has been selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.  Sandy is one of 56 student-athletes nationally to receive the prestigious award.  "I'm extremely proud of Sandy.  Starting out as a modestly talented middle distance runner during her first season, her level of improvement and commitment to our team success over four years has been incredible.  Yet throughout the process, she remained keenly focused on her academic goals.  Sandy's balanced approach and commitment to academic excellence truly represents what Division  III athletics is all about," said Robert Shankman, Rhodes Head Track and Field Coach.

Sandy graduated from Rhodes with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average in Biology.  At the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships she placed 5th in the 800 meter run to earn 1st Team All American honors.  She was a standout in Cross-Country and Track and Field, where she earned All Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors in the 800, 400, pole vault and the 4 X 400 relay.

In early May Sandy was inducted into the Rhodes student body Hall of Fame, perhaps the highest honor a member of the senior class can achieve.  She served as President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for four years and on the Rhodes Student Government for three years.

Hunter Chandler, a recently graduated senior from Gainesville, GA, was also selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.  Rhodes is the only NCAA Division III institution with two recipients and joins Division I institutions Princeton, Stanford, UCLA, UC-San Diego and BYU with two recipients.
