Stephanie Mingos named 2nd team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association; tied for 5th after 2nd round of NCAA tournament

Stephanie Mingos' second round in the 2009 NCAA golf tournament could be characterized by 16 good holes and two holes where bad luck and bunker play turned a good round into an 83.  "Stephanie's approach shot on the par 5 1st hole plugged on the side of a hill in the greenside bunker.  She was lucky to advance the ball 4'.  It took her two more shots to clear the bunker, then she two putted for an eight," said Coach Clary.  "The first hole kind of unnerved Stephanie and she bogeyed the 2nd and 3rd hole.  So she's played three holes and she's 5 over par.  Stephanie did a great job of composing herself and played the next 13 holes in 3 over par."

After birdieing the par 5 16th hole, Stephanie pulled her 7 iron in a bunker on the par 3 17th hole.  Again a tough lie led to a couple of shots to get out of the sand trap and eventually a six on the hole.

Defending champion Susan Martin of Methodist leads the field with an even par 144 (73-71).  "It may be difficult for Stephanie to challenge Susan Martin for the individual title, but she has a goal of finishing in the top 5 in the tournament.  I'm looking for a good score from Stephanie in the 3rd round," said Coach Clary.
