Men's track and field places 3rd at conference championships

The men's track and field team won three events on their way to tally 134 points to come in 3rd place out of 9 teams at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by the University of the South-Sewanee at the Coughlan Track.  Trinity won with 198 points and Centre was 2nd with 172 points. 

Sophomore Andrew Maryott (East Denis, MA/Yarmouth), sophomore Chris Moore (Southlake, TX/Carroll), and the 1600 meter relay team of Cory Dardenne (Kingwood, TX/Northeast Christian Academy), Jon Mervine (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge), Anson Purdy (Wesfield, NJ/Oratory Prep) and Greg Cook (Bellaire, TX/St. John's) all took first place honors.

Maryott defended his hammer throw title of a year ago with a new conference record of 153' 8".  Moore who was second as a freshman came back this year to win in a time of 9:45.00.  The 4 X 400 relay came back from a 7th place finish in 2008 to win by over 2 seconds with at time of 3:22.01.

All conference finishers (top 3 in each event) include senior Will Boehm (Willis, TX/Willis), who placed thrid in the hammer throw, senior Steele French (Alpharetta, GA/Milton), who came in third in the 1500 meters, Jon Mervine, who placed second in the 400 hurdles, freshman Alex Lippincott (Brookline, MA/Brookline), who placed third in the high jump, Andrew Maryott, who placed second in the discus and Greg Cook who placed second in the javelin and triple jump.

Jon Mervine provisionally qualified for the Division III National Championships in the 400 intermediate hurdles with at time of 53.34 seconds.
