Seven outstanding alumni and one team will be inducted into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend, October 21-22, 2011.
Tommy Clinton '61 – Four year starter in football on offense and defense when players went both ways. Served as Captain of the 1961 football team and was selected the Co-Most Valuable Player of the 61 team. Led team in rushing, receiving and scoring his freshman through senior years. Held numerous school records for years for most pass/run plays over 50 yards. Great sprinter in track and served as Captain of the 1960 and 1961 track teams. Awarded the Seidman Trophy at graduation for academic/athletic excellence.
Arnie Pittman '67 – Outstanding golfer for the Lynx who served as Team Captain his junior and senior years. Was medalist in the College Athletic Conference (CAC tournament) two times and runnerup once. While Arnie was a member of the team, the Lynx won the College Athletic Conference title. Served as President of the “S” Club, the Intra-Fraternity Council and the ATO fraternity. Tapped Omicron Delta Kappa and recognized by Who's Who Among American Colleges. Arnie has served Rhodes in numerous capacities since his graduation.
David Maddux '87 – Selected All College Athletic Conference (All CAC) in 1984, 1985 and 1986 at defensive tackle. Received the inaugural J. Hal Daughdrill Award for being voted the Most Valuable Player on the 86 Lynx team. Selected to the National Strength and Conditioning Association All American Team, as well as the Pizza Hut Honorable Mention All American Team. As a senior led team with 112 tackles and 9 sacks. Also lettered four years in track and field, where he was an outstanding shot putter.
Thomas Johnson '94 – Outstanding scorer who led the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in scoring (486 points) and scoring average (19.4/game) his senior year. Selected to the All CAC team his freshman year and to the All SCAC team his sophomore, junior and senior years. Also led the SCAC in steals as a sophomore with 65. Served as Co-Captain of the 1992-93 and 1993-94 Lynx teams. Key player on teams which won two conference titles, one NCAA post-season appearance, and compiled 20 game win streak during the 93-94 season on their way to a #3 national ranking.
Albert Johnson '96 – Ranks as one of the best point guards in Rhodes basketball history. Four year starter and selected All Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) his junior and senior years. Led Rhodes in scoring as a junior with 19.2 average. Ranked in numerous SCAC single-season and career categories. Currently ranked #1 in the SCAC in all-time assists with 499. Ranked 3rd all-time in steals with 256. Key player on team which won the 1993-94 SCAC title and advanced to 2nd round of the NCAA tournament, and compiled 20 game win streak on their way to a #3 national ranking.
Emily Burch (Crocker) '01 – Put the Rhodes Women's Golf program on the map when she finished as the national runnerup in the 2001 NCAA Division III National Championship as a senior, which enabled the Lynx to secure a 3rd place team finish. Also placed 5th individually in 2000 NCAA tournament, when the team also placed 3rd in the tournament. Medalist in the 2000 and 2001 SCAC tournaments and selected SCAC Player of the Year. Holds 36 hole SCAC tournament record score of 150, as well as low 18 hole score of even par 72, which Emily shot in the 2001 tournament.
Becky Harper (Dickey) '01 – Becomes the first Rhodes Softball player to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. In the early years of Rhodes Softball helped establish the program as a four-year starter as an infielder and pitcher. Selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Player of the Year in 1999, the only Lynx player to date to earn this distinction. Earned All-SCAC honors in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Named to the SCAC 15th Anniversary All-Conference team (1991-2005). Still ranks in the top five in numerous SCAC and Rhodes categories.
1985 Women's Tennis Team – NCAA post-season opportunities for women began in the early 1980's. The 1985 Tennis Team was the first Rhodes Women's team to participate in an NCAA Championship post-season tournament. Rhodes was one of eight teams (out of more than 100 teams) nationally to be selected to the tournament. Members of the team were Laurie Laughlin (Neale) '86, Mary Ann Fesmire (Emanuel) '86, Allison McCarthy (Gauthier) '85, Stephanie Fuss (Hayes) '86, Lauren Martel '87, Laura Reasoner (Grant) '86 and Audrey Weston (Breay) '86.
