The men's track and field team opened up the outdoor season at home. There were many highlights on the day from many schools as there was a mix of Division I, II and III. Rhodes's men had many good performances to start the year out.
Kevin Stechler (11.34), Greg Palm (11.36), Sean Jacobs (11.50) and Josh McMurray (11.52) got a good start in 2009 in the 100 meters. Freshman David Thomas opened up with a 52.58 in the 400 meters. The men did very well across the board in the 800 meters which included Evan Nelsen (1:59.21), Cody Beatty (2:00.52), Steele French (2:01.74) and Matt Jacobs (2:02.50).
Sophomore Jon Mervine (55.22) and junior Anson Purdy (56.63) started where they left off last year in the 400 meter hurdles.
The 1500 meters was another bright spot for the men. French opened the season with a 4:02.80 and Beatty came through at 4:04.33. Senior Mark Handelman ran a 9:52.80 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Freshman Alex Lippincott finished second in the high jump with 6' 3.5".
Andrew Maryott shined in the throws once again. He threw his personal record in the discus 152' 9", tossed the hammer 141' 7".
The men's 400 relay consisting of Palm, Stechler, McMurray and Jacobs ran well coming in at 43.65. The 1600 meter relay (Palm, Mervine, Thomas, Purdy) came through at 3:28.72.
