The Rhodes Lynx were edged out by their Division II opponent, Henderson State, on Saturday. The Lynx provided intense competition for the Red Wave that nearly overturned the outcome. Junior Captain Drew Wagstaff dominated his competition in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:01.56, a full 16 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. On the women’s side, Sophomore Gianna Salvucci made a statement with her win the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:02.75, edging out Sari Ozden, of the Red Wave, by more than four seconds. The Lynx Cats endured a tough home meet this past Saturday, but are intent on claiming a home victory next Saturday, as the Lynx will take on Hendrix College and Berry College. The meet will be held at the Bartlett Rec Center once again at 1:00 P.M.

The Rhodes College swim team participated in a swim meet this past weekend to cap off their winter training this season.  The previous week the team spent quality time together in Florida battling through below freezing temperatures, swimming two times every day.  Though physically broken, the team rose up to compete against multiple division one teams this past weekend in Tunica.  Though exhausted, several swimmers posted stellar swims.  Kelly Helvenston posted a lifetime best in the 200 backstroke, Erik Campbell produced a solid 100 flystyle.  Laura Hofto won her heat in the 200 breastroke with another season  best.  But the star of the meet was Kristen Griffin posting a blazing 59.95 in the 100 freestyle.  The team continues to train with an eye towards conference.

The Lynx Swim Program capped off this season’s winter training by competing this past Friday and Saturday against multiple NCAA division I and II schools, including 29th ranked Missouri State University. Despite being broken down and fatigued from the rigorous winter training program, which required the swimmers to stay on campus until December 22 and return shortly after the first of the year, many swimmers turned in seasonal, if not personal, best times in events.
